Scrabble birthday cake!

My dear friend Sophia loves me, and knows that I’m keen to play word games, Scrabble in particular. I have several games going online all the time, and play with actual people once a week. She surprised me at work this morning with a really great cake. Woot!

Now that the numbers are in on same-sex marriage, many Republicans are falling like dominos all over themselves to express their support for something that only a few months ago they steadfastly claimed to stand against. They’ll probably soon claim that this is how they felt all along, and they were simply too hamstrung by politics to be able to say what they really meant. Well, okay. In the spirit of openheartedness and what life is really all about, I’ll go so far as to say that the fear of others may mask some deep-seated desire to understand, and maybe even to love. Because really, what is there to be afraid of?

For Mother’s Day, the New Yorker celebrates marriage equality with this heart-warming cover of a two-mom family by cartoonist extraordinaire Chris Ware.

This. This I like.

Tee hee. I love this. And, not for the first time, I wish I played the ukelele.

13 Examples of people being awesome after the Boston Marathon bombings

I can’t help but be inspired by the acts of bravery. I’m sure we’ll hear many more stories in the days and weeks to come. Thanks to Business Insider for publishing this article.

And I also can’t help but love Patton Oswalt: “So when you spot violence, or bigotry, or ignorance, or fear, or just garden-variety misogyny, hatred, or ignorance, just look it in the eye and think, ‘The good outnumber you. And we always will.’”

I’m also incredibly grateful that a very good friend of my dad’s is okay and on her way home. Feeling sad for those not so fortunate.
